Aventura Stone & Light Residence

The Challenge

A family seeking their primary South Florida residence had a clear but uncommon brief: they wanted the airiness of a coastal home with none of the pastels, nautical references, or generic Florida aesthetic. Their reference points were the apartments they had loved in Paris and Milan — spaces where materials carried the design and nothing felt produced for a market.

Our Approach

The design pivoted entirely on material selection. A large-format stone-textured feature wall anchored the living space and set the tone for every subsequent decision. Flooring was treated in polished large-format porcelain that reads as restrained Italian marble. Furniture was kept deliberately neutral — a generous light linen sectional, a pair of matte black round tables that function as sculptural punctuation — so that the material story of the room never had a competitor. The media wall was resolved with a full stone-clad surround and an integrated natural wood shelving unit that introduced organic warmth without abandoning the precision of the overall scheme. Sheer floor-to-ceiling drapes amplified natural light while maintaining the sense of enclosure.

The Result

A residence that sits in its landscape without performing for it. Guests consistently note that it doesn't feel like a typical South Florida apartment — which is exactly what the clients wanted to hear. The interplay of stone texture, diffused light, and considered proportions delivers a tranquility that photographs struggle to fully capture.
